Other sensors

There many other types of sensors available for use around your home.  All connect like any other sensor and require wiring runs unless wireless versions are available.  Some are listed below.

Security screens - a screen that replaces your existing exterior window screens and is connected to a zone.  If someone removes a screen, it trips the zone..

Infrared beams - Requires a light source and receiver.  Break the beam and the alarm sounds (similar to the safety sensor on you garage door opener).

Pressure sensitive mats - step on the mat, activate the alarm .  Mats come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Glass breakage sensors - Two types.  One attaches to windows and respond to vibrations if glass is broken. The other can be mounted near the window and it will "listen" electronically for the sound of breaking glass.

Window tape - that ugly silver tape that detects broken glass because it breaks when the glass breaks!

Moisture detectors - trip when moisture is detected through physical contact. Must be installed in the location where moisture could accumulate.  Used in basements, near water heaters, etc.

Smoke,  Heat, and  Carbon monoxide detectors will be covered in another section.
